I’m sure you’ve all seen the ads for Moonlight — the show about vampires (vamps, as Mick St. John calls them), and I’ll be honest, I didn’t think it would be a very good show. In fact, I had no plans of watching it. However, my family started watching it and started to get into it.
One Friday evening, I didn’t have anything better to do, so I watched it. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed the show.
Now lets be clear here, I’m not a critic, so I don’t know the first or last thing about critiquing (I can’t even spell it) a television show. I can only offer you my thoughts, take ’em or leave ’em 🙂
For some reason this show just draws you in. After only one episode, I had to see the others as I wanted to know the entire story. I talked to my wife about it and we both agreed that we really liked the character Mick St. John (played by Alex O’Loughlin). Just something about him is likable. Maybe it’s that he’s a vamp, but doesn’t want to be one? Maybe it’s his voice??? Maybe its the confidence of the character he portrays? Maybe it’s all of the above — I really can’t tell you, but I like him and enjoy his acting. He seems to be the perfect fit for his role as the vampire that is on the human side.
I… also like his side kick Beth Turner (played by Sophia Myles). She’s just attractive — I don’t know of any other way to put it. That acting is good too, but … 🙂 (the guys will know what I’m talking about).
The other thing I really enjoy about this show is the sheer lack of crap one tends to see in every other show on television these days. So to find a show that I can watch with my children and not worry about them hearing or seeing something I wouldn’t want them to see is a very nice relief. Though the show is rated TV14-LV (I have now idea what the LV means, and a quick google & yahoo search didn’t yield much). At any rate, I believe the rating has more to do with being about vampires than anything else.
So anyway, those are my thoughts. It’s worth watching if you have an hour to burn on a Friday evening. For those that enjoy watching TV online, here’s the link to the CBS Moonlight page where you can watch an episode or two.
